January Retail Sales Strong

Washington, DC, Feb. 7, 2013 -- Retailers for the most part enjoyed strong sales for January, as seasonal promotions brought shoppers into stores.

Target Corp.  posted a 3.1% rise in January same-store sales compared with a year ago.

Macy's saw same-store sales rise 11.7%, ahead of the expected 6.4%.

Kohl's reported a 13.3% rise in same-store sales, when 3.1% was expected

The 18 retailers tracked by Thomson Reuters posted 5.8% growth in January..
