Housing Starts Up 6.5% in September

Washington, DC, October 20, 2015—Housing starts rose by 6.5% to 1,206,000 million in September, according to the Commerce Department.

This is the second-highest level in eight years and marked the sixth straight month that starts were above one million units.

In addition, the September figure is 17.5% above the September 2014 rate of 1,026,000.

Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,103,000. This is 5.0% below the revised August rate of 1,161,000 and 4.7% above the September 2014 estimate of 1,053,000.
