Gasoline Pushes Wholesale Prices Higher

Washington, DC, March 14, 2013 -- Wholesale inflation in February rose by the most in five months mostly due to a spike in gasoline prices, according to the Labor Department.

However, inflation seemed to be mostly contained in other areas.

The government said its seasonally adjusted producer price index rose 0.7% last month after advancing 0.2% in January.

In the 12 months through February, wholesale prices were up 1.7%, the fastest rise since October.

Excluding volatile food and energy costs, prices were up 0.2%.
