Flooring Sales a Bright Spot for Home Depot

Atlanta, GA, Aug. 22, 2013 -- The growth of flooring sales at Home Depot was partly responsible for the firm's better than expected second quarter results, according to remarks on the firm's conference call.

CEO Frank Blake said that soft flooring was a core category that remained strong in the quarter.

Also, Craig Menear, executive vice president of merchandising, said that special order carpet and floor tile were two categories that outpaced the company's year-over-year comparisons.

Overall, Home Depot said it should continue to benefit from a resurgent housing market.
