Floor Focus Names Vision Awards Winners

Chattanooga, TN, March 20, 2013 -- Floor Focus, along with its partners Bentley Prince Street, Centiva, Crossville and Johnsonite, has announced the winners of its 4th annual Vision Awards.

The contest is the only one in the floorcovering industry that awards projects based solely on the quality of the design.

The Vision Awards features five competition categories—corporate, healthcare, education, retail and hospitality—and this year had a 15% increase in the number of entries submitted.

Gensler—San Francisco’s Autodesk headquarters design, the corporate category winner, was honored with the grand prize.

In the education category, Meyer, Scherer, & Rockcastle, Ltd’s design of McAllen Main Library in McAllen, Texas received the top honor.

The Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles design by RA-DA was the healthcare category winner.

Wilson Associates’ W New York Union Square took the top prize in hospitality.

In the retail category, the winning project was Solara in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, a design by Ruscio Studio.

The Vision Awards’ grand prizewinner receives $4,000, and each category winner receives $2,000.

In addition, winning designers are invited to celebrate their win at the Vision Awards celebration, which will be held this fall in Boston.

Runners up were JPC Architects’ design of Google—Seattle in the corporate category; Muller + Muller, Ltd’s design of West Ridge Elementary School of Chicago in the education category; Lionakis’ design of Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center of Honolulu, Hawaii in the healthcare category; JPC Architects’ design of The Chinese Room @ The Smith Tower of Seattle in the hospitality category; and Hex 9 Architects’ design of Mercedes-Benz of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the retail category.

Key to the contest is the idea that any project can be entered, regardless of the materials used. All product and firm names are removed from the entries.

Judges for this year’s Vision Awards were Shashi Caan of the Shashi Caan Collective, Valerie Warren of Gensler—Boston and Brad Black of Nelson.
