E-commerce Sales Rise 4.2%, Account for 7.2% of Total Retail

Washington, DC, August 19, 2015—The estimate of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the second quarter of 2015, adjusted for seasonal changes, was $83.9 billion, an increase of 4.2% from the first quarter of 2015, according to the Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce.

E-commerce sales accounted for 7.2% of total retail sales.

Total retail sales for the second quarter of 2015 were estimated at $1,171.5 billion, an increase of 1.6% from the first quarter of 2015.

The second quarter 2015 e-commerce estimate increased 14.1% from the second quarter of 2014 while total retail sales increased 1.0% in the same period.
