Construction Material Prices Down in September

Washington, DC, October 15, 2015—Construction materials prices fell 1.6% in September and 5.3% year over year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This represents the largest decline since October 2009 and follows a 0.9% drop in August.

Only three key input prices rose in September: plumbing fixtures and fittings, concrete products and crude petroleum.

The key inputs that fell or remained flat are crude energy materials; fabricated structural metal product; iron and steel; steel mill products; nonferrous wire and cable; softwood lumber; prepared asphalt, tar roofing and siding; and natural gas.
