Congoleum Closing New Jersey Warehouse

Hamilton Township, NJ, July 10, 2014 -- The Congoleum flooring warehouse here will cease operations later this year.

The company filed a notice with the state Department of Labor that it would lay off 65 employees effective Sept. 1.

Kurt Denman, senior vice president of marketing for Congoleum, said the move is being made for two reasons.

First, selling the 1 million-square-foot warehouse will free capital that can be invested in other parts of the business.

In addition, Congoleum believes it will be more efficient to ship its products to distributors directly from its plants rather than using a warehouse as an intermediate step.

Operations will gradually decrease until the plant shutters completely on Oct. 31.
