Chicago Business Expands at Slower Pace

Chicago, IL, Sept. 30, 2014 -- Growth in the Chicago area economy slowed in September but remained at a healthy pace, according to the Chicago PMI.

The index, also known as the Chicago Business Barometer, hit a September reading of 60.5, down from 64.3 in August.

Nevertheless, companies added inventory at the highest pace in 41 years.

Also, the prices paid index hit its highest level since November 2012. 

Any reading above 50 indicates expansion.

"Activity levels remained buoyant in September and point to continued firm
economic growth. Moreoever, the record pace of stockbulilding suggests firms are increasingly confident that things will keep improving," according to the press release.
