Carpets of Dalton Founder Dies at 78

Carpets of Dalton founder, Lamar Hennon died on Tuesday, August 25 at the age of 78 at his home in Georgia.

Hennon was considered a pioneer in flooring retail. He opened Carpets of Dalton in 1971, growing it to become, for a time, the largest carpet outlet in the country. His son Jerry now runs the business, the iconic anchor in a string of flooring outlets along Interstate 75 in Dalton, Georgia.

Hennon gave generously to the community, especially in support of athletic programs at his alma maters Dalton High School and Lincoln Memorial University. He served on the LMU board of trustees and funded a renovation of the baseball stadium, which now bears his name.
