London, England, Feb. 22, 2013 -- The Axminster company may not survive for long, according to a story in The Telegraph.
The 258 year old company has announced its intention to appoint administrators.
Axminster follows Brintons, which a year ago also fell into adminstration before it was rescued.
According to the story, UK carpet sales are down 24% since 2006, losing share to wood and laminate.
The story quotes Michael Coddington, a partner at Wells Carpet, a shop in the Devon town of Axminster itself, who says: “You have to sell what people want to buy. Axminster carpets were beautiful quality but they were just too expensive.”
