Architectural Billings Index Up After Two Months of Decline

New York, NY, June 25, 2015— After two months of a decreasing demand for design services, the U.S. Architecture Billing Index (ABI) has bounced back into positive territory with a score of 51.9, reports the American Institute of Architects

April’s reading was 48.8. 

The new projects inquiry index was 61.5, up from a reading of 60.1 the previous month. This growth was lead by a growing demand for new schools, hospitals, cultural facilities and municipal buildings.

The regional averages were as follows: midwest, 52.3; south, 54.6; northeast, 45.2; and west, 49.9.

With regard to the sectors, institutional had the highest reading at 55.2; mixed practice was 52.5; commercial/industrial was 48.3; and multi-family residential was 45.9.

The key ABI Highlights for May were project inquiries index with a reading of 61.5 and design contracts index with a reading of 53.4.
