Applications for Initial Jobless Claims Reach 42-Year Low

Washington, DC, October 16, 2015— In the week ending October 10, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 255,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous week's revised level, according to the Department of Labor.

 

This marks the lowest rate in 42 years, since November 1973.

 

The previous week's level was revised down by 1,000 from 263,000 to 262,000.

 

The 4-week moving average was 265,000, a decrease of 2,250 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since December 15, 1973 when it was 256,750.
