2014 Vision Design Awards - April 2014
We are continually pleased with the quality of entries that are submitted for the Vision Design Awards. The projects are innovative and inspiring spaces that improve the lives of those utilizing them, and the Vision Awards seeks to honor this quality of design, the sort that moves the field forward and utilizes flooring in unique and beautiful ways.
These are the reasons why, five years ago, when we conceptualized the awards, we decided that it was imperative that all product and firm names are stripped from the entries before judging, so that judging is free of preference and prejudice, like judged against like.
Once again, we received substantially more entries in the corporate sector than in any other. Education and hospitality were tied for the second highest number of entries. Then came hospitality and retail.
When we started the Vision Awards, we chose sponsors that we knew would support us in our concept and appreciate the idea of a blind judging. Bentley, Centiva, Crossville and Johnsonite have been with us since the beginning and have been great partners.
Judges for 2014 were Shashi Caan of the Shashi Caan Collective, who has been been a Vision Design Awards judge since the inception of the contest; Jane Merlo, senior designer with Glidden Spina + Partners; and Tim Blair, vice president with HOK Miami.
The 2014 Vision Awards celebration will return to South Beach this year. Design leaders for the winning projects, representatives from the sponsoring companies and Floor Focus and the judges will gather to celebrate with great meals and events.
Floor Focus will begin accepting entries for next year’s awards in January 2015.
